Staff Services
Copper comes to Hollifield Leadership Center after five years on the staff at First Baptist Church, Hickory, NC, where he served as Church Administrator. Copper has gained broad management experience in both for-profit and non-profit organizations and has held a wide range of leadership positions in the local church. "My passion is helping to equip Christian leaders to use their gifts, personalities, and preferences to do the work to which God has called them," Copper says. "A well trained and empowered Christian leadership community will lead congregations to accomplish more in areas of missions, evangelism, and discipleship. What we do at Hollifield Leadership Center has a ripple effect throughout our state, nation, and world." Copper is a certified coach through the International Coach Federation as well as Valwood Christian Leadership Coaching. A graduate of Stetson University in Deland, FL, he was also certified as a Fellow in Church Business Administration by the National Association of Church Business Administrators. He lives in Lenoir, NC with his wife, Chelo, and their three boys. The Center's first director was Roy Bryant, who moved from York, SC to live on site with his wife, Betty, and son, Johnny, who was 11. Johnny grew up fishing and boating on the lake, and in 1972 became facilities operations coordinator, a role he retains today. Johnny hated to leave the farm, but he discovered an idyllic life fishing, boating and working with his father to maintain the executive training center for Duke Power. His father died in 1972 and his mother Betty assumed the director's role and Johnny came back home to manage the facilities. He still lives adjacent to the Hollifield Leadership Center. Growing up on site and spending the majority of his career maintaining the facility gives Bryant a unique appreciation and orientation toward Hollifield. "It's almost like this has been my life," he says. "When Duke Power put it up for sale I was horrified that I'd have to leave it. It's a blessing to still be here as a staff person for Hollifield Leadership Center." Sandy came to Hollifield Leadership Center from her home church, Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover, North Carolina. A Florida native, Sandy has lived in the Hickory area for 6 years. Sandy is a decorated military veteran with 23 years of service to our country as a member of the United States Air Force. She served at several stateside assignments as well as being stationed in three countries in Europe. Sandy visited over 18 countries while living in Europe. After retiring from the US Air Force she worked for the State of Florida as an accounting supervisor at the Bay County Health Department in Panama City, Florida. Sandy has extensive experience in the areas of administration, accounting, and in computer software programs. She gained her knowledge through a wide variety of positions for the Department of Defense, state government, local government and non-profit level organizations. Sandy sees her contribution to the Hollifield team as an integral part of our mission accomplishment at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. She lives in Conover with her husband, Gary, and their four children. Faye lives in the Little Mountain community of eastern Catawba County. A Bandys High School and Appalachian State University graduate, she comes to Hollifield with experience in the Tour and Travel industry for more than ten years working with groups. She is an active member of Mt. Anderson Baptist Church, serving as Discipleship Training Director, Sunday School Teacher, and former WMU Director. Faye believes that God has a mission for her life. That mission, as part of the Hollifield team, is to provide groups who come to the Hollifield Leadership Center with a great opportunity for a carefree and God-filled experience. “It’s important to do everything for God’s glory and I am looking forward to working with a variety of church groups from all over the state of North Carolina and the southeast.” Faye is available to assist you with your visit to Hollifield Leadership Center. Kim brings a variety of experiences to Hollifield Leadership Center. She has lived and traveled with her husband, a former airman, in Europe as well as Florida before returning to her home state of North Carolina. Most recently, after having worked as an assistant editor at a newspaper in Morganton, Kim has been on a sabbatical as a stay-at-home mother for four years. For nine years she worshipped with her Presbyterian husband at Northminster Presbyterian Church where she was active on numerous committees and was ordained as an elder. Within the past year, Kim and her family have returned to her roots as a Methodist and she is now a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Kim feels her job with Hollifield and especially with the Sustaining Pastoral Excellence Program is the answer to years of prayerfully searching for a way to combine her communication skills with her interest in the church. “I have been interested in the internal workings of the church for several years now. I am intrigued by how differently we all approach the church and worship, even though we’re all seeking the same thing – a closer relationship with Christ. I look forward to working with all the SPE pastors and I hope we will all learn a lot through the process.” Kim is a graduate of the University of West Florida with a degree in communications and lives in Hickory with her husband and two daughters. Donna is not new to Hollifield as she was a guest services assistant before taking the coordinator position. She and her husband are missionaries who are currently working in the States. After having served in the Philippines for over twenty years, she has had experience in many service roles within their mission and really enjoys being able to assist the guests at Hollifield. The Jenkins have two grown daughters and families living in Washington State and Arizona. They also have a son in high school living at home. Erin comes to Hollifield after working a variety of volunteer and paid positions during her husband David's twenty-year Navy career. Upon David's retirement, he and Erin and their son, Jason, moved from Newport, RI to Hickory, NC. Their family has been living and working in the area for 12 years now and consider it to be home. Recently, David, Erin and her mother, Virginia moved to a new home in the Bethlehem area, near Lake Hickory. David and Erin have been attending Connection Church since the fall of 2002. Erin is involved in the Women's Group and volunteers in the nursery. David plays acoustic guitar in the Worship Band. Their son, Jason is a sophomore at UNC-Chapel Hill majoring in International Studies. Erin enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as traveling and reading. Erin feels that her varied job experiences have prepared her in a unique way to fill the position of Administrative Coordinator of the Sustaining Pastoral Excellence Process. "God knew the skills I would need, and gave them to me over many years and miles. Coming here to Hollifield and the SPE process feels like coming home." As Food Service Coordinator, Mike oversees all food-related functions and staff. Mike, a graduate of Appalachian State University, comes to Hollifield after a long career in food service and catering. Mike and his wife Donna live in Lenoir and are members of Lenoir’s First United Methodist Church. Both of their children live in Boone, NC. Mike is a graduate of Disciple 1 and Disciple 2 Bible Study courses taught at First Methodist, and is an active member of the Usher Team. Mike sees his new position at Hollifield as the next step in God’s plan for his life. “I’ve been preparing for this position all of my life. God has been getting me ready for this for some time. I’m glad to be a part of this team and a part of the ministry here at Hollifield”, said Heavner.
