In this step-by-step instructional book Bullard helps congregations identify where they are in a church life cycle so they can take steps back toward vitality. Bullard says there resides in almost every church a small core of passionate people who have a Kingdom vision and if they just had a handle on how to infuse that vision into the “people of position” in their church, they could lead the congregation back up the life cycle toward a new prime era. Bullard gives these people of passion such handles. Bullard suggests congregations write their future story…the vision God has revealed to them of where He would like their church to be in 10 years. As people see that future, they can take the steps Bullard has outlined to live into that future.

Creswell draws from her extensive corporate and ministry coaching experience to provide ministers and other church leaders a clear definition of what coaching is and the seven basic benefits an individual, team, or church can receive through a qualified coach. After more than twenty years of leading and lecturing on leadership models based on a CEO approach to leadership, Robert Dale has taken a 180 degrees turn. Rather than the "pry and push" mechanical models of industry, Dale has moved to an organic "sow and grow" approach. Hammett provides succinct overviews of the challenges and opportunities these realities bring to the doors of churches and their leaders. His primary focus is on facilitative questions and practical ideas for discipling the churched and the unchurched who are seeking grounding and meaning in this rapidly changing world.

Hammett takes seriously the issue that we are now living and serving in a secular culture. The message of Christ can penetrate the world when Christians learn to be and do church both inside and outside the walls of the church. He offers suggestions about understanding, activating, and evaluating the church and how we can equip believers for effective ministry in the 21 century.

In the first edition of Making the Church Work, Hammett wrote that the church is not only in need of change, but also in need of a conversion. Now his conviction is stronger than ever. In this second edition, he addresses the issues of changing value -values about what leaders and their congregations are doing as a church and the effectiveness of their techniques. Hammett is convinced that until church leaders change their values healthy, relevant, and effective churches are not like to appear.

From the Outside In is a serious look at how the personality of a church can act as a barrier that keeps it from being a welcome ally in the local community and keeps the community from hearing the gospel and the nature of the Kingdom of God.
