At our best, we're a community of learners. We connect to other learners by neighborhood streets and front porches of conversation, meetings, email, Internet, simulcasts, telephone, memos, books, audiotapes and videos. We share our wisdom in one area while drawing wisdom from neighbors in another. It's a new style of learning, filtered from the very oldest.
Hollifield Leadership Center (HLC) is a future-embracing, forward-looking leadership development center in a "retreat" facility on serene Lake Hickory near Conover, North Carolina. It is a location, a setting in which to conduct premium leadership development learning experiences.
Learning experiences are the formal gatherings of learning communities. They differ from traditional sit-and-be-talked-to learning events because they are multi-sensory, and involve participant interaction at many levels, in the classroom and out. Learning is layered and participants often discover true community among themselves.
HLC provides the most current computer technology, high-speed Internet access, video conferencing and presentation equipment to enhance learning experiences. Yet, the comfortable retreat setting remains quiet enough to hear acorns fall on the roofs, and the soft crunch of shoe leather on the 3/4 mile walking trail surrounding the campus.
